And it wasn’t long before Roman Zobnin had a chance from distance, which bounced off the leg of the unfortunate Fathi – under pressure from Artem Dzyuba- and into the back of his own net.
And amazingly, that’s the fifth own-goal we’ve seen at the World Cup so far.
OG’s from Morocco’s Aziz Bouhaddouz, Australia’s Aziz Behich (what’s it with fella’s called Aziz?), Oghenekaro Etebo of Nigeria and Poland’s Thiago Cionek means, along with Fathi, own-goals currently lead the scoring chart at the World Cup.
In fact, there’s only been one World Cup where we’ve had more own-goals, when we saw six in 1998.
With 47 games still to go in the World Cup, we’re surely going to see that record beaten, aren’t we?
What’s more, with Russia thrashing Egypt in this evening’s game, we could easily close-in on the record for goals at a World Cup, which also happened in 1998.
