Spain v Iran gave us the most embarrassing throw-in in World Cup history

If you mess something up at the World Cup, you are doing it in front of billions of people.

So let’s say once and for all it is not the time to try something that you haven’t practiced properly that could well end up leaving you looking like a t***.

Someone please tell Iran’s Milad Mohammadi.

The other 20 minutes and 59 seconds of his performance weren’t badAFP or licensors

With Iran pressing Spain for a huge equaliser that would have put them in a great position to improbably reach the last-16 they won a late throw-in.

Mohammadi, on as a substitute, was obviously the long throw man and took control of the ball.

His teammates lined up in the box ready for the delivery, but what happened next left half the world cringing.

Mohammadi kissed the ball, then headbutted it, then he boldly performed the classic somersault throw-in technique.

Except he forgot one crucial part… to let go of the ball.

He then had to rewind his run up and launch the throw the way normal people do.

Was it the greatest or worst moment in World Cup history? You decide.

All we know is that Mohammadi will probably go to bed tonight running that moment through his head.

His moment to pull out the most audacious unnecessary skill in the book on the world stage and he fluffed it.

Have a look at this to see what he was trying to do…
