And this had us thinking – which current Premier League stars would love to move back to their former employers? To preserve your sanity as well as my own, we’ve narrowed it down to seven players.
1 Alvaro Morata

The Spaniard has had a torrid old time at Stamford Bridge.
When he joined Chelsea from Real Madrid last season, he had Diego Costa’s big boots to fill. No pressure then.
Sadly for Morata, his Chelsea career has simply not got going.
Despite enjoying himself in his opening seven games of last season, poor form meant he failed to make Spain’s World Cup squad in the summer.
What’s worse is that Olivier Giroud has seemingly taken his place and the 25-year-old must be craving a return to either Real or Juventus.
2 Fernando Llorente

Llorente impressed for Swansea when he first came to the Premier League.
And you can’t help but think the big centre forward is missing those days at the Liberty Stadium.
Once prolific for Bilbao, Llorente is now well and truly stuck behind Harry Kane. He’s lucky if he gets a run out in the Carabao Cup these days.
3 Paul Pogba

Pogba’s return to Man United hasn’t quite been the fairy tale many expected, much to the delight of Graeme Souness.
He’s one of English football’s most divisive players and can’t quite help p*ssing off Jose Mourinho.
Could you really blame the Frenchman if he wanted to return to Turin?
4 Danny Drinkwater

Poor old Drinkwater.
The former Leicester man moved to Chelsea back in 2017 and has made just 12 appearances for the Blues ever since.
Although he’s being paid a pretty penny, he must get bored of staring forlornly out at N’Golo Kante from the Chelsea dugout.
5 Vincent Janssen

After a brilliant year for Dutch giants AZ Alkmaar, Janssen earned himself a big money move to Spurs in 2016.
However, the 24-year-old must be desperate for a return to Holland.
After an underwhelming year on-loan at Fenerbache, the striker is now out of Spurs’ squad for both the Premier League and Europe.
He’s been rendered homeless. Quite fitting for Spurs, to be fair.
6 Lucas Perez

How Lucas Perez must be missing sunny Spain.
The forward was signed by Arsenal in 2016 and his career with the Gunners never really got going.
Arsene Wenger took a disliking to the £15million man and his opportunities were few-and-far between.
Perez swapped the bench in north London for one in east London when he joined West Ham in the summer.
7 Tiemoue Bakayoko

Have you ever seen such a fall from grace?
Chelsea signed Bakayoko as a direct replacement for Nemanja Matic last summer. Isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing?
The Frenchman’s time with the Blues has been so bad that after just one season, he was shipped out to AC Milan on-loan.
But his performances for the Serie A club have been so poor that Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso even told him to re-learn the basics of football, bemoaning his lack of technique. Shots fired.
