Are Chelsea the real contenders to Man City’s title?
Everyone’s talking about Liverpool but the Blues are quietly going about their business with three wins out of three and it looks like fantasy managers can start counting on their defence again.
But for a completely different reason this season.
Getty - ContributorUnder Antonio Conte Chelsea were all about defensive solidity and denying their opponents a chance at goal.
So far under Maurizio Sarri the backline has looked a little bit more shaky, but it is paying dividends at the other end.
With another assist against Newcastle yesterday Marcos Alonso is now the joint-highest scoring player on Dream Team – level with Sergio Aguero and Sadio Mane on 31 points.
That’s a left-back currently equal to two of the most dangerous forwards in the Premier League.

The player with the best hair in football has currently been selected by 16.5% of Dream Team managers which hints that he is being under-selected when compared with Aguero (44.4%) and Mane (39.9%).
Alonso’s consistently good performances will see him pick up points all season.
He’s bagged 3pts in each of his games for a 7+ WhoScored.Com rating and grabbed the Star Man for a bonus 5pts for his winner against Arsenal.
Bear in mind also that the Spaniard only costs £4.5m, £2m cheaper than Aguero and £1.5 cheaper than Mane, all pointing towards some serious over-performance from the defender in the opening weeks.
Alonso is in the top price bracket for a defender, but if he’s paying you back handsomely with loads of points then he’s worth the money.
PA:Press AssociationAlonso is one of Sarri’s main attacking outlets down the left flank.
With Jorginho drawing players in in midfield there is often space to down the wing to exploit for the left-back.
It worked to perfection for Chelsea’s opener against Arsenal and then Alonso drifted into the box to grab the winner.
If that is going to be a theme for the rest of the season then you have to consider getting the attacking defender in your team.
And Chelsea’s upcoming games look like opportunities for Alonso to fill his boots.
The Blues face Bournemouth, Cardiff and West Ham in their next three which should equal nine points, one or two clean sheets and plenty of chances for Alonso to burn down that left wing.
