We’ve seriously missed watching Xabi Alonso.
The King of Cool turned out for Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in a trophy-laden career before retiring last season and it was great to see him back in action this afternoon as Liverpool took on Bayern in a star-studded Legends clash at Anfield.
The likes of Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Ian Rush, Steven Gerrard, Ze Roberto, Lothar Matthaus and Bixente Lizarazu took part in the match, which ended up being a ten-goal thriller.

In the opening 45 minutes, the Spaniard – playing alongside Gerrard in midfield, which definitely stirred my nostalgic side – was part of a Reds side that raced into a three-goal lead, with Fowler, Owen and Dirk Kuyt on target.
But Bayern fought back.
Italy’s World Cup-winning striker Luca Toni headed home a wonderful Ze Roberto cross, before Alexander Zickler and Paolo Sergio helped produce an Istanbul-esque comeback.
Alonso then uncharacteristically gave away possession inside his own box for Zickler to score his second and give Bayern the lead.
But he redeemed himself – sort of – in the second-half, switching sides and producing an all-round brilliant display before rattling home a simply breath-taking free-kick.
What a player.
