Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason has announced his retirement from football.
The one-time England player fractured his skull after a clash of heads with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill in January 2017.
He was given oxygen and treated for eight minutes on the Stamford Bridge pitch before undergoing surgery at St Mary’s hospital in London.

The 26-year-old has since said he was ‘lucky to be alive’, and returned to training with the Tigers in May of last year.
However, after seeing three specialists the ex-Spurs man has decided to hang up his boots.
It’s a devastating blow to a talented player who played 69 times in the Premier League, after breaking into the Spurs team in 2014.

Having enjoyed successful loan spells at Yeovil, Swindon and Doncaster, the midfielder was drafted into Mauricio Pochettino’s squad following a successful pre-season in the United States.
He received plaudits for his consistent performances with Spurs, and was given a call-up to the England squad in March 2015 for a European qualifier against Lithuania and a friendly against Italy.

He moved to Hull in 2016 and played 16 times in the Premier League for the Tigers before his horror head clash.
