Every single Jose Mourinho quote after the defeat to Liverpool suggests he’s losing the plot

Pre-season is meant to bring optimism for the approaching campaign.

A time for many supporters to ponder ‘what if?’ about their clubs’ chances over the coming months.

Jose Mourinho, however, appears hellbent on p***ing on the parade of every single Man United fan on this planet we call Earth.

The Special One of course has a reputation for being spiky in press conferences, but he took his stroppiness to new extremes after the 4-1 pre-season defeat to Liverpool on Saturday night.

In fact ‘spiky’ and ‘stroppy’ don’t really scratch the surface.

Firstly Mourinho basically suggested if he was a regular punter he wouldn’t have given a rat’s a*** about watching a game between two of the biggest club sides in world football.

He said: “The atmosphere was good but I wouldn’t spend my money to watch these two teams.”

Over 100,000 fans inside the Michigan Stadium appeared to disagree with him.

Then he turned on his players, saying this about Alexis Sanchez’s team-mates: “Look, do you want him [Sanchez] to be very happy with the players he has around him?

“We are here just to survive and to have some not very ugly results.

“Alexis is the only striker we have. And the poor man is there trying his best.”

Survive and ugly being the most powerful words in that particular chunk.

Next? Anthony Martial, of course, who had the audacity to return home to celebrate the birth of his first child.

“He (Martial) had the baby, and after the baby… beautiful baby full of health, thank God.

“He should be here and he’s not here.”

Time and a place, perhaps Jose?

There was also the inevitable snide remark at the level of refereeing which has become so customary in Mourinho press conferences.

With just two weeks to go until the start of the new season his aura hardly instils confidence, does it?

Mourinho is entering his third full season in charge at Old Trafford; he left Chelsea in his third season during both his tenures at Stamford Bridge.

Ticking time bomb?
