If you were startled by a loud bang at around 2pm this afternoon it would have been a Man United fan spontaneously combusting.
The team news from Old Trafford caused quite a stir when it revealed that Jose Mourinho had dropped Paul Pogba in favour of Scott McTominay.

The £89million midfielder was forced to start on the bench alongside Anthony Martial while United’s 21-year-old partnered Nemanja Matic in a double pivot in Mourinho’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.
With fans up in arms on social media, the Portuguese manager was asked about his surprise selection before kick-off.
“I play Scott McTominay,” he said. “He arrived here aged 9-years-old and spent many years in the academy, he has been waiting for an opportunity which I give him now and again, today is another one.

“The game is important for us because we need points to be the first of the last [after Manchester City]. We have to try to finish second.
“We’re doing better than last season and it’s very important for us to do better than last season.
“We are trying to win something this season, and if not, we will try to be stronger for next season.”
Mourinho and Pogba were seen arguing over tactics during a break in play on Wednesday night as United lost 2-0 to Spurs at Wembley.
The Frenchman was replaced by Juan Mata just after the hour mark and clearly Mourinho feels United’s best chance of beating Huddersfield this afternoon is with McTominay in Pogba’s place.

The Huddersfield left-back on loan from Monaco bulldozed the United midfielder in the box but somehow got away with not giving away a penalty.
