FA Cup third-round draw: Merseyside rivals drawn together

We know, we know.

Football is losing it’s values and traditions, rinsed in a sea of commercialisation, fads, gimmicks, energy-drink sponsors and fantasy football banter.

Ahem.

But luckily, all of that is trounced by the mighty FA Cup, which has become relevant once again with tonight’s third-round draw.

In case you’re wondering why it’s suddenly become relevant at this stage, it’s because Premier League and Championship clubs have entered the competition, including holders Arsenal.

But there’s also the tantalising prospect of four non-league sides – AFC Fylde, Hereford, Slough and Woking.

Ipswich v Sheff Utd

Watford v Bristol City

Birmingham v Burton

Liverpool v Everton

Brighton v Crystal Palace

Aston Villa v Woking or Peterborough

Bournemouth v AFC Fylde/Wigan

Coventry v Stoke City

Newport County v Leeds Utd

Bolton v Huddersfield

Port Vale/Yeovil v Bradford City

Nottingham Forest v Arsenal

There’s some genuine crackers there.

The pick of the bunch is undoubtedly Liverpool v Everton, while we’re pretty excited to see how League One AFC Wimbledon will do against Spurs.

Championship strugglers Norwich will be dreading their clash with Chelsea, while non-league Fylde can look forward to a trip to Premier League side Bournemouth – if they beat Wigan.

Holders Arsenal will travel to Nottingham, while Man United have (another) home clash in the FA Cup, this time against Derby (reckon that one will be televised?)

As you were folks.
